How to use More Problems Like This

A guide for homeschool families, parents, and teachers

How it works

1

Type or snap a problem

Type any math problem, or upload a photo of a textbook or worksheet.

2

Set your options

Choose grade level, topic, difficulty, and how many problems you want.

3

Get your problems

Receive a fresh set of similar problems — same type, varied numbers.

4

Practice or print

Work through them on screen, or print a clean worksheet.

Grade levels & topic support

Works great~Verify answersLimited

K–2nd grade

Counting, basic addition and subtraction, simple word problems, number patterns. Works best with whole numbers and simple one-step problems.

ArithmeticWord ProblemsNumber Patterns

3rd–4th grade

Multiplication, division, intro to fractions, place value, area and perimeter. Great for multiplication table practice and word problems.

ArithmeticFractions & DecimalsWord ProblemsArea & Perimeter

5th–6th grade

Fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, intro to negative numbers, basic geometry. Strong coverage — one of the best grade ranges for this app.

Fractions & DecimalsPercentagesWord ProblemsArea & PerimeterVolume & Surface Area

7th–8th grade

Pre-algebra, solving equations, inequalities, proportions, area/volume of shapes, intro to statistics. Excellent for equation practice.

Pre-AlgebraPercentagesVolume & Surface Area~Statistics & Probability

9th–10th grade

Algebra I & II, linear equations, quadratics, systems of equations, basic trigonometry, geometry proofs. Works well for algebra — always double-check trig and proof answers.

AlgebraWord Problems~Trigonometry~Geometry Proofs

11th–12th grade

Pre-calculus, polynomial functions, logarithms, statistics, probability. Good for practice problems — verify complex answers independently.

Math topic tips

Why did the app give me easier problems than my example?

This can happen with advanced topics like quadratic equations, where there are several different types of problems that look similar on the surface. For best results, add a short note after your example problem describing what type of solution it has or what method should be used. For example:

  • “Solve: 2x² + 3x + 5 = 0 (this has complex solutions, use the quadratic formula)”
  • “Solve: x² + 6x + 9 = 0 (complete the square)”
  • “Solve using the quadratic formula — answer will have irrational solutions”

That extra note helps Math Problem Pal match the exact skill you're practicing, not just the general topic. The more specific your example, the better the match.

Why did I get a word problem with a negative area?

For problems involving complex or imaginary solutions, the app works best with pure equations like x² + 9 = 0 rather than word problem format — there's no real-world scenario where a negative area makes sense! If you get a word problem that seems mathematically odd, try regenerating or adding a note: "pure equation format only."

About accuracy

This app uses Claude by Anthropic, one of the most reliable AI models for math reasoning. For topics marked "Works great," expect correct problems and answers the vast majority of the time. For topics marked "verify answers," we recommend a parent or teacher spot-check solutions before giving them to a student.

Tips for best results

  • Be specific with your example — "Solve for x: 3x + 7 = 22" gives better results than just "algebra problem"
  • Set the grade level for better-calibrated word problems
  • Photo tips: well-lit, in focus, printed text works better than handwriting
  • Use the difficulty slider to adjust if problems are too easy or too hard
  • Use Worksheet mode for printing — gives a clean sheet with name/date/score fields
  • Use "Show answer" as a teaching tool — walk through the steps together

Known limitations

  • No diagrams — problems requiring visual figures are described in words only
  • Handwritten photos are harder to read — type it in if handwriting is unclear
  • Very advanced math (calculus and above) is outside the reliable range
  • Requires an internet connection to work

Account & Billing

How does the Problem Pack work?

When you purchase a Problem Pack you get 100 problem sets added to your account instantly. They never expire — use them at your own pace. If you run out, just buy another pack and the new sets stack right on top of your remaining balance. There’s no pressure to use them by a certain date.

What’s the difference between the Problem Pack and Monthly Unlimited?

The Problem Pack is a one-time purchase of 100 problem sets for $9.99 — great if you use Math Problem Pal occasionally or want to try it without committing to a subscription. Monthly Unlimited is $7.99/month and gives you as many problem sets as you want — better value if you use it regularly, especially for teachers or families with multiple children. You can switch between the two at any time.

How do I get more problem sets?

If you’re on the free trial, click the upgrade prompt when you run out or go to your account menu and select ‘Get more sets.’ You can buy a Problem Pack for $9.99 or switch to Monthly Unlimited for $7.99/month. If you already have a Problem Pack, buying another one simply adds 100 more sets to your balance.

Do my problem sets expire?

Never. Problem Pack sets stay in your account until you use them — no expiry date, no pressure. Monthly Unlimited subscribers have unlimited sets for as long as their subscription is active.

How do I cancel my monthly subscription?

Go to your account menu, click Billing, then Manage Subscription, and follow the steps to cancel. Your unlimited access continues until the end of your current billing period and you won’t be charged again after that. Your account stays active on the free tier after cancellation. If you change your mind you can resubscribe anytime. Questions? Email hello@mathproblempal.com.

Can I upgrade from a Problem Pack to Monthly Unlimited?

Yes — any time you want. Go to your account menu and select Upgrade to Monthly Unlimited. Any remaining Problem Pack sets stay in your account and will be used first before your unlimited access kicks in.
