Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about how More Problems Like This works

Will I get the same problems every time?+
No — every generation produces a fresh set with different numbers and phrasing.
What if the answer looks wrong?+
Click "Show answer" and read the steps. If the steps don't make sense, generate a fresh set.
How do I type exponents?+
Use the ^ symbol before the number — for example, x^2 means x squared and 2^3 means 2 to the power of 3. You can also just write it in words, like 'x squared' or '2 to the power of 3' — both work fine. Or copy-paste from somewhere: x² or x³ using actual superscript characters also works.
Can I use a problem from my child's textbook?+
Yes — type it or take a photo. The app generates similar problems without copying the original.
Can I use my phone camera to take a photo of a problem?+
Yes! On a phone or tablet, tap the photo button and you'll get the option to take a photo right there in the app — no need to switch to your camera app first. On a desktop or laptop, you can upload any image file from your computer instead. Either way, Math Problem Pal reads the problem from the image automatically.
My photo won't upload — what do I do?+
If you're on an iPhone and transferred a photo via AirDrop or from your Photos library, it may have saved as an HEIC file, which some browsers don't support. The fix is easy — on your iPhone go to Settings → Camera → Formats and switch to 'Most Compatible,' which saves photos as JPEG automatically from that point on. Alternatively, open the photo in your Photos app, tap Share → Save as JPEG, and upload that version instead. Photos taken directly inside Math Problem Pal on your phone won't have this issue.
Does it work for any curriculum?+
Yes — Saxon, Singapore Math, Teaching Textbooks, or any other. It matches the style of what you give it.
How many problems can I generate per month?+
Free: 10 sets. Starter: 50 sets. Family: 200 sets. Unlimited: no cap. Each click = one set.
Can I use this for multiple children?+
Yes — change the grade level and difficulty for each child. The Family plan is designed for multiple children.
Can I install Math Problem Pal on my phone?+
Yes! When you visit on your phone you'll see a prompt at the bottom of the screen — tap Install to add it to your home screen just like a regular app. On iPhone, you can also tap the Share button in Safari and choose 'Add to Home Screen.' No App Store needed.
